The Perfect Taste of Summer

Snelgrove Ice Cream was the best ever. The flavors were fresh and delicious, the texture smooth and creamy.  It was so much fun to sit at the counter and order a triple-thick Burnt Almond Fudge Shake (my favorite) or stand in long lines for 10 cent cones. (Bear Lake Raspberry - available only in season).  The vintage sign and landmark ice cream cones remain; but sadly, Snelgrove Ice Cream is only a fond memory. We have become ice cream connoisseurs and making ice cream is a  favorite family tradition. It's fun and easy and the perfect taste of summer.   White Mountain Freezers are a must and of course a great recipe.  Here are a few of our favorites:

BURNT ALMOND FUDGE ICE CREAM
3 cups sugar
3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa
2 cups evaporated milk
6 cups half and half
4 cups whipping cream
3/4 teaspoon almond extract
1 cup toasted almonds
Combine all ingredients except almonds.  Freeze in ice cream freezer.  Add almonds.

**RASPBERRY ICE CREAM
Juice of 3 lemons
3 1/2 cups sugar
2 cups sour cream
Mix until smooth, then add:
2 quarts half and half
6 cups **raspberries mashed
Freeze and enjoy.
**Strawberries are also delicious

LIME AND LEMON ICE CREAM
8 cups milk
3 cups sugar
2/3 cup fresh lemon juice
1/3 cup fresh lime juice
1/2 teaspoon lemon extract.
Mix and freeze.
